How to see your family’s location from a computer or browser
How to see your family's location on a laptop or desktop browser: AI Family Locator's web map, how invitations and consent work, and what to expect.
Published by the makers of AI Family Locator. See our product facts and limitations when choosing a location-sharing tool.
Short answer: you can see consenting family members on a live map from any computer by using the AI Family Locator web app. Pay once ($4.99 for one phone number or $19.99 for unlimited numbers), open the map at /app/map in your browser, and invite each person by phone number; they appear after they install the app and accept. Nobody’s location is shown without their approval.
Quick facts
- Where: any modern browser at /app; the family map is at /app/map. Nothing to install for the person viewing.
- Price: $4.99 once (1 number) or $19.99 once (unlimited), no subscription.
- What appears: live location, battery level and speed for people who accepted.
- Family members need: a supported AI Family Locator sharing app, location permission and a data connection. The public store listing linked here is for iPhone; web access from Android does not establish that an Android sharing app is available. Check the invitation’s app link for each device before purchasing.
- Consent: required. A phone number alone never reveals a location.
Why people want a browser view
Phones are great for checking a location on the go, but a browser has real advantages when you are at a desk. A parent at work can keep a larger map open in a tab. A carer can watch an arrival from a laptop while on a call. A family planning a road trip can share one screen. You also avoid putting yet another app on a shared or older device, because the viewer only needs a browser.
How the web map works
- Choose a pass. On the pricing page choose $4.99 for one phone number or $19.99 for unlimited numbers. It is a single payment; nothing renews.
- Open the map. After paying, your family map opens in the browser at /app/map.
- Add a phone number. Enter the number of the person you want to see. The site creates an invitation link for that number.
- Send the link. Send it by message or any messenger.
- They accept. The person installs AI Family Locator, opens the invitation, accepts and allows location sharing on their phone.
- Their pin appears. Their live location, battery and speed show on your web map.
If step 5 does not happen, nothing appears. That is deliberate. The same invitation model is described in how location requests work.
What you can see, and how fresh it is
The map shows the last position shared by each accepted member, with battery level and speed. How current that is depends on the phone: signal, permissions, battery settings and whether the app has been allowed to update location in the background all matter. The map can show a last known position rather than the person’s position this second, so check the update time before relying on a pin. If a pin looks stale, our location not updating checklist lists what to check on the phone.
A browser view works well for
- Parents and teens: agree together that the family map exists, then check arrivals from a laptop. See location sharing with teens.
- Caring for an older parent: a calm, large-screen view and a quick check on battery. See elderly parent safety.
- Shared households: with the unlimited pass, add everyone who agrees to share.
- Travel days: watch a relative’s journey in progress.
Privacy and consent, in plain terms
Location sharing should be something every person knows about and agrees to. The invited person can decline, and they control location permission on their own phone. This product is for consent-based family sharing, not hidden tracking; using location data to monitor someone without their knowledge may be unlawful where you live. Our is location sharing safe guide covers the safety questions to talk through first.
What the web map does not do
- It does not show anyone who has not accepted an invitation.
- It does not find a phone from its number, IMEI or carrier records; see tracking a phone number for why that is not possible.
- It does not guarantee accuracy or a fixed update interval.
- It is not an emergency service.
Web pass or App Store purchase?
They are separate. The web pass is paid once and unlocks the browser map. App Store in-app subscriptions are billed and managed by Apple. If you are unsure which applies to you, see product facts and pricing.
Next step
Open /app, pick the pass that fits your family and invite the first person. If you want to understand the cross-platform side first, read sharing location between iPhone and Android.
Frequently asked questions
Can I see my kid's location on my laptop?
Yes, with consent. Open the AI Family Locator web map at /app/map in any browser, invite your child by phone number, and once they install the app, accept and allow location sharing their location appears on your laptop.
Do I need to install an app to view the map?
No. The buyer uses the web app in any browser. The family member you invite needs to install AI Family Locator on their phone and accept.
Does it work on a Mac, Windows PC or Chromebook?
The web map runs in a modern browser, so any computer or tablet with a current browser can open it. Check the live map on your own device because browser and network conditions vary.
Can I see someone who has not accepted?
No. Until the person installs the app, accepts your invitation and allows location sharing, nothing appears on the map.
