What affects phone location accuracy?
| Condition | What to check |
|---|---|
| Indoors, underground or near tall buildings | Signal can be weaker; check the update time and allow for uncertainty. |
| No mobile data or Wi‑Fi | A device may determine a position without being able to send it to the family map. |
| Location permission restricted | Ask the member to review the app’s permissions on their own phone. |
| Phone switched off or battery empty | Treat the displayed pin as a last known position. It cannot confirm where the person is now. |
Apple explains how Location Services uses GPS, Bluetooth, Wi‑Fi and cellular information. This describes the operating system; it is not an accuracy test of AI Family Locator. We have not published a controlled accuracy or battery benchmark.
Choose the right way to find a phone
- A family member who agrees to share: set up the app and accept an invitation before relying on the map. Follow the family sharing guide.
- Your own lost iPhone: start with Apple Find My. A family app cannot be installed remotely to locate a phone that is already missing.
- An old or missing location: use the location update checklist before assuming the pin is current.
- A number you do not recognize: the free number lookup checks numbering information, not a person’s whereabouts.
GPS phone app or a separate tracking device?
A phone app uses the device a family member already carries and requires their participation. A dedicated tracker has its own hardware, power and connectivity requirements. Compare the actual device and plan rather than assuming identical accuracy, coverage or battery use.
See product facts and limitations before choosing a plan. Location sharing requires agreement and working devices; it does not guarantee safety or replace direct contact.
