# Free phone number lookup country, type & format.

Find out which country a number belongs to, whether it’s mobile or landline, and how to dial it correctly. The lookup runs in your browser. It does not identify the owner or show the phone’s current location.

## What a phone number can tell you

Every phone number follows a public numbering plan. From the digits alone you can learn:

- **The country** — from the international calling code, such as +1, +44 or +91.
- **The line type** — mobile, landline, toll-free, premium-rate or VoIP, where the plan separates them.
- **Whether it’s valid** — if the length and range match the library’s numbering-plan rules; this does not confirm an active or assigned subscriber.
- **The correct format** — how to write and dial it from abroad, locally, or store it in E.164.

## Want the exact location, not just the country?

The digits tell you the country — the phone itself knows exactly where it is. With [AI Family Locator](https://ailocator.app/start) you enter the number, send a location request by SMS or messenger, and as soon as it’s approved you see the phone on the map in real time, with today’s route, arrival alerts and battery level. ## FAQ

### Can I see where the phone is right now?

This free lookup reads the number itself: country, line type and format. To see the phone’s real-time location, send a location request with [AI Family Locator](https://ailocator.app/start) — as soon as it’s approved, the phone appears on your map.

### Can a reverse phone lookup show who owns the number?

This tool does not identify the owner of a number. It uses public numbering-plan data to check country, possible type and format. A valid format does not prove that a number is active or belongs to a particular person.

### Is this lookup really free?

Yes. The check runs entirely in your browser using Google’s open-source phone numbering data. The lookup does not send the number to our servers. It keeps the formatted number in this tab’s session storage so you can carry it into the next step.

### Why does a valid-looking number show as invalid?

Each country has its own numbering plan. A number can have the right length but use a range that isn’t assigned. Make sure you selected the right country or started with + and the country code.

### What does “mobile or landline” mean?

Some countries, including the United States and Canada, use the same number ranges for mobile and fixed lines, so the type can’t be told from the digits alone.

### How can I tell if a call is a scam?

Be wary of unexpected international numbers, one-ring missed calls, and anyone asking for codes, payments or gift cards. Don’t call back unknown premium-rate numbers; search the number online and block it if needed.
