# Find my phone — locate a lost phone fast

Start with the device-finding service already enabled on your phone. Available recovery options depend on the device and prior settings; a new family app or web pass cannot enable sharing on a missing phone retroactively.

Short answer

To find your phone, sign in at iCloud.com/find (iPhone) or google.com/android/find (Android) from any device to see it on a map, play a sound, lock it or erase it. If it’s off, you’ll see its last known location. Family locator apps like AI Family Locator also show your phone’s last location and battery level to family members you’ve shared with. Sharing requires a supported iPhone, the app, an accepted invitation, location permission and an internet connection.

Android app coming soon. The web map already works in Android browsers, but the person sharing must use a supported app (currently linked for iPhone). Check before paying. [Device compatibility](https://ailocator.app/product-facts).

## How it works — 3 steps

1. ### Enter a family member’s number

Add the people whose phones you’d want to find.

2. ### They approve

Each phone shares its location and battery with the family.

3. ### Lost phone? Check the map

Check any available position and the time it was recorded.

## Lost your phone? Do this now

1. **Call it** from another phone — it may be under a cushion.
2. **iPhone:** open [iCloud.com/find](https://www.icloud.com/find) on any computer or phone, sign in with your Apple ID, choose your iPhone. Tap *Play Sound*, or *Mark as Lost* to lock it and show a contact number.
3. **Android:** open [google.com/android/find](https://www.google.com/android/find), sign in with the Google account on the phone, then *Play sound*, *Secure device* or *Erase*. Full steps in [find your phone with Gmail](https://ailocator.app/guides/find-my-phone-with-gmail).
4. **Not moving and nearby?** Use the map to search the last place — car, café, office.
5. **Stolen?** Lock it, call your carrier to block the SIM, and report it to the police with the IMEI — it’s on the box, on your carrier account, and in your Apple ID or Google account device list.

## Find my phone methods, compared

| Method | Works when phone is off? | Who can use it |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Apple Find My | Last location; newer iPhones for a while after shut-down | You, with your Apple ID |
| Google Find Hub (Find My Device) | Last location; some newer Pixels when off | You, with your Google account |
| Calling the number | No | Anyone |
| Carrier / police (IMEI) | Network-side, by legal request | Police, carrier |
| **AI Family Locator** | Last known location and battery level | Family members you share with |

## Prepare location sharing before a phone goes missing

Most lost-phone panics happen because nobody knows where the phone was last seen — or that its battery was at 3%. With AI Family Locator, your family sees each other’s phones on one map:

- **Last known location** with the time it was recorded.
- **Low-battery alerts** before a phone switches off.
- **Location history** to retrace the day.
- **SOS** when the problem is bigger than a lost phone.

Enter a family member’s number above to set it up. Review the [current one-time pass pricing](https://ailocator.app/pricing); installation, consent and permissions are required.

## Frequently asked questions

### How do I find my phone by number?

Calling your number helps if the phone is nearby and not on silent. To see where it is, use Find My (iCloud.com/find) or Find My Device (google.com/android/find). A family member who shares location with you in AI Family Locator can also see your phone on their map.

### Can I find my phone if it’s turned off?

You can see its last known location. Recent iPhones can also be found for a while after switching off through the Find My network. Read [how to find a phone that’s turned off](https://ailocator.app/guides/find-a-phone-that-is-turned-off).

### Can I track my phone with the IMEI number?

Only your carrier and the police can use the IMEI, usually to block a stolen phone. Report it to both. See [tracking a phone with IMEI](https://ailocator.app/guides/how-to-track-a-phone-with-imei).

### My phone was stolen — should I go there?

No. Don’t try to recover it yourself. Lock it remotely, report it to the police with the location and IMEI, and let them act.
